Protect Your Floors, Furniture and Art From Fading

Can window film stop the Tucson sun from fading your things? It goes straight at the main cause. Film blocks up to 99% of UV, so your floors, rugs, furniture and art keep their color.

And the room stays bright. Our clear film is barely visible on the glass, so the art looks the way you hung it. We'll put samples on your own windows. You'll see how little changes in the room.

What the Tucson Sun Fades, and What You Can Save

Ever moved a rug and found a darker rectangle underneath? That's the sun at work. Light through the glass slowly bleaches the color out of whatever sits closest to the window. With sun most days of the year, it happens here faster than most people expect.

Here's what we hear about most:

  • Wood floors. Hardwood and engineered wood change color where the sun lands. The outline of a rug or a sofa shows up the day you move it.
  • Rugs and upholstery. Wool, cotton and silk lose their color, often on just the side that faces the window.
  • Wood furniture and cabinets. Finishes lighten or yellow unevenly. One side of the dining table stops matching the other.
  • Leather. It dries out, fades and loses its sheen.
  • Blinds, shutters and drapes. Window coverings take the full sun every day. Fabric shades fade, and slats can turn brittle.
  • Art, photographs and books. Paint, ink, paper and photographs are some of the most light-sensitive things in a home.

Protecting all of it costs far less than replacing a sofa or refinishing a floor. And a well-kept interior helps a home show well when it's time to sell.

What Causes Fading, and Where Film Stops It

UV light is the main cause. It's invisible, and it carries enough energy to break down dyes, pigments and finishes. A room can feel softly lit while everything in it takes a steady dose.

Two other things play a part:

Visible light. Bright daylight itself slowly fades the most sensitive materials, like some fabrics, watercolors, works on paper and photographs.

Heat. Sun-warmed surfaces dry out and age faster. That's part of why leather, wood and canvas suffer by a sunny window. Infrared is the part of sunlight that carries that warmth.

Film goes straight at the main cause. Every solar film we install blocks up to 99% of UV at the glass. It also cuts the infrared heat coming through, so it helps with the heat side too. One step at the window protects everything in the room.

Clear Film: Protect Your Things and Keep the Room Bright

Here's the most common mix-up we hear. UV protection doesn't depend on how dark the film looks. A nearly clear film can block UV as well as a dark one.

That's why clear film is where we start for fading. You keep the daylight, the view and the true colors of the room. The film just stops what's doing the damage.

The UV stops at the glass. Every Ultra-VisionDS shade blocks more than 97% of UV.

The floor stops baking. Ultra-VisionDS 40 blocks 80% of the sun's infrared heat. The tile by the slider stops getting hot to the touch, and so does the sofa.

Your art is easier to see. Glare off framed glass or a varnished canvas makes art hard to enjoy. Clear film takes the edge off.

Your house still looks like your house. From the street, your windows look much like they do today. Clear window film

You'll see it on your own glass before you decide. That's what the free estimate is for.

The Clear Film Lineup: Three Shades, No Color Cast

We install SunTek window film, and Ultra-VisionDS is its clear, barely visible line. It's neutral, so your floors and your art keep their true color. All figures are from SunTek's published specifications.

Ultra-VisionDS 70 is for you if you want the windows to look untouched.

Ultra-VisionDS 50 is a balanced pick for living rooms with art on several walls.

Ultra-VisionDS 40 adds a touch of tone and the line's strongest heat and glare control. If the sun sits on your floor or a gallery wall for hours, this is the one we'd put on your house.

We match one shade to the whole house, so every window looks clean and even from the street.

Not sure which shade? Call (520) 542-3002. We'll bring all three, and you'll pick in your own light.

Light or Dark, Your Floors and Art Are Protected

Want it light? Ultra-VisionDS keeps the room bright and the colors true, with more than 97% of UV blocked. It's the natural fit for art and for rooms where the view matters.

Want it dark? Darker and reflective films block up to 99% of UV too. They add privacy, glare control and our strongest heat rejection. DR Mirror 7 rejects 83% of the sun's total heat. If you'd like a calmer, shaded feel, a darker look protects your things just as well. Dual reflective film One-way mirror film

You never need dark film to stop fading. Pick the look you like for the whole house, and we match one film to it. You'll see both on your own glass before you decide. Does window tint make a house dark?

A Bright Room and a Protected Collection: You Can Have Both

You shouldn't have to choose between a bright room and your art. Clear film gives you both.

Paint, ink, paper, photographs and textiles are among the most sensitive things in a home. Colors shift, reds and blues weaken and paper yellows. That change can't be undone. In a Tucson house with big windows, a piece on the wrong wall can change in just a few years.

At home, most of that light comes through the window, so the window is the best place to start. Film blocks the UV at the glass for every piece in the room, every day.

For a collection you care about, a few habits add to what film does:

  • Placement. Keep the most sensitive pieces, like works on paper, photographs and textiles, off walls that take direct sun.
  • Shades at peak hours. Closing shades during the strongest afternoon sun adds protection in rooms you're not using.
  • A conservator for valuable pieces. For an important or irreplaceable work, a conservator can advise on framing and light for that piece.

At the estimate, show us where your pieces hang. We'll look at how the sun moves across those walls and tell you exactly what we'd do. No pressure.

Where Fading Shows First, and Where Film Pays Off Most

West- and south-facing living rooms. The long afternoon sun sits on the sofa, the rug and the floor for hours.

Sliders and French doors. Full-height glass puts sun right on the floor. That's where furniture outlines show up first.

Kitchens and breakfast nooks. Cabinets and wood tables near a garden window or a bay window fade unevenly.

Dens, studies and libraries. Books, leather chairs, framed photos and art often share one room with a big window.

Rooms with shutters or custom shades. Film protects the window coverings themselves. They keep their color and last longer.

What Window Film Can and Can't Do: The Straight Answer

We'd rather tell you this plainly. Window film greatly reduces fading. It doesn't stop it completely, because visible light and heat also play a part, and no film that keeps a room bright blocks all of them.

  • Film handles the main cause. Blocking up to 99% of UV at the glass is the most effective single step for the whole room.
  • Sensitive pieces still deserve care. For valuable art, textiles and photographs, pair film with good placement and shades at peak hours.
  • Film protects from the day it goes on. It can't bring back color that's already gone. Everything it protects from then on stays the way it is.

Fading Protection Questions

Does window film prevent fading?

It greatly reduces it. Our solar films block up to 99% of UV, the main cause of fading in floors, furniture, fabric and art. Visible light and heat also play a part, so film slows fading a great deal rather than stopping it completely.

Do I need dark film to stop fading?

No. UV protection doesn't depend on how dark the film is. Nearly clear Ultra-VisionDS blocks more than 97% of UV. Darker films block up to 99% and add privacy and heat control. Both are good choices.

Will window film protect hardwood floors?

Yes. Film blocks UV and much of the infrared heat at the glass. That slows the color change and drying sun causes on wood floors, especially by sliders and French doors.

Will it protect my rugs, furniture and cabinets?

Yes. Rugs, upholstery, leather, wood furniture and cabinet finishes are among the things film protects best, since UV is the main cause of their fading.

Does window film protect blinds and shutters?

Yes. Window coverings take the full sun every day. With film on the glass, blinds, shades and shutters keep their color and last longer.

Does window film protect artwork from fading?

Yes, it greatly reduces fading. Clear Ultra-VisionDS blocks more than 97% of UV, the main cause, while the room stays bright. For valuable pieces, pair it with good placement and shades at peak hours.

Will clear film change how my art looks?

Very little. Ultra-VisionDS is a neutral, barely visible film, so it doesn't add a color cast. With less glare on the frame glass, art is often easier to see.

How soon should I put film on?

As soon as fading is a concern. Film protects from the day it's installed, but it can't restore color that's already gone.

How much does UV window film cost?

Most homes start around $14 a square foot installed. Your price depends on the film, your glass, the window sizes and how many you tint. You get a clear quote on the spot at the free estimate.

Who installs UV-blocking window film in Tucson?
